Paris Throws Ugg Boots Aside to Resist Animal Cruelty

“Prestige buttresses power, turning it into authority, and protecting it from social challenge.”

-C. Wright Mills

Paris Hilton’s prestige in the social world has given her power to influence the lives of many. Her photos, fashion, and words become public almost instantaneously as social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook take off. Recently, Paris has spoke out on her horrified response to the use of fur from raccoon dogs in the production of Ugg boots. Paris claims, “This is so sad & disgusting. I don’t know how someone could do this to an animal. Don’t buy fake Ugg boots”. Coming from this heiress, Ugg boots will likely see a decline in sales. Because of the prestige she holds in society, her fans will take her word as authority. Already, Paris has sparked several petition sites, as well as discussion on Twitter and Facebook.
